The DORA PROJECT is a pay-it- forward program that exists entirely through the help and support of friends, and friends of friends. For over 20 years I’ve been providing the most basic necessities such as food, toiletries and towels to those in need.

I do this because I know what it’s like.  My family was just like many of these families in need.

I grew up in the poverty strewn streets in the favelas of Brazil, where each day my mother, brother and I struggled to have food on the table. Many days and nights were filled with hunger and desperation. Out of necessity, at the age of eleven I started working as a housekeeper for a Portuguese woman whose name was Dora. She took me under her wing. She helped me with school and getting a basic education and gave me shelter. I was a stranger to her. Yet Dora contributed so much to my life.

The DORA PROJECT is a mission to give back to other families-- who like my family as a child—struggled to put food on the table.  Families that with just a little support, can go on and do great things one day.

Today I have a beautiful and blessed life that I am beyond grateful for. I thank Dora for that.
